How Does the RespawnGuide Tier Maker Work?

The RespawnGuide tier maker turns text or image items into an editable ranking board. Add the choices to the unranked pool, move each one into a tier, edit the rows, and adjust the board design. The tool saves the active board in your browser and exports the finished result as a PNG or PDF.

Choose One Ranking Question

Start with the question your finished board should answer. “Best Characters for Competitive Play” gives you one clear test. “Favorite Characters” measures personal preference instead. Mixing both standards makes close decisions harder to explain.

Keep the item group focused as well. Characters from one game, films from one series, or menu items from one restaurant are easier to compare fairly.

    Step 1

    Name the Board

    Open the RespawnGuide Tier List Maker and select Title in the top control bar. The title can contain up to 70 characters. You can hide it from the board without deleting the saved text.

    A precise title explains the item group and the ranking rule. “Weekend Games Ranked by Group Fun” tells readers more than “My List,” especially after the image gets shared away from the site.

    Step 2

    Add Text or Image Items

    Use Add Text when names are enough. Enter one item per line, then add the set to the unranked pool. Short names remain easier to read inside square tiles.

    Use Add Images for characters, products, covers, and other visual choices. One selection can contain up to 40 PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF files. Each file must be 5 MB or smaller.

    Tip: Add the complete comparison set before ranking. The unranked pool makes missing and repeated items easier to spot.

    Step 3

    Move Items Into Tiers

    On a desktop, drag an item from the pool into a row. You can also drag a ranked item into another tier. On a phone or tablet, tap an item once and then tap the destination row. The selected tile keeps an orange outline until the move finishes.

    Place the clearest top and bottom choices first. Those items become reference points for the harder decisions in the middle.

    Edit the Tier Rows

    Every row has controls on the right side. Change its color, move the whole tier up or down, or delete it. Select the label itself to enter a custom name with up to 18 characters.

    The default board starts with S, A, B, C, and D. Use Add Tier when you need another level. One board can contain up to 12 rows. Deleting a row returns its items to the unranked pool.

    Adjust the Board Design

    The top control bar changes both the live board and the downloaded file. Theme switches the text and tile treatment. Background sets a black or graphite color and can display an uploaded image.

    Title and Logo control the identity above the rows. Image Border keeps pale pictures visible. Copyright adds a line below the board, while Watermark places faint repeated text across it. Both attribution controls are optional.

    Preview and Download the Tier List

    Select Presentation to inspect a clean board without editing controls. Check the title, tier order, labels, image crops, empty rows, and color contrast. Close the preview when the board still needs changes.

    Open Download after the review. PNG works well for posts, messages, and websites. PDF is useful for printing or placing the ranking in a document.

Saving and Privacy

How Does Saving Work?

The active tier list saves in local browser storage on the same device. A refresh usually restores the current board, but local storage isn't a permanent backup. Clearing site data, changing browsers, or moving to another device can remove access to the saved state.

Download the finished PNG or PDF before clearing browser data. Reset removes the current items, rows, and design settings after a confirmation prompt.

Common Problems

What Can You Do When Something Fails?

An image that won't load may use an unsupported type or exceed the 5 MB limit. Choose a smaller PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF file. When browser storage is full, remove a few large images and download the current board before adding more.

Touch users should tap the item first and the row second. If an export fails, remove a large image and try again. The status line under the editor reports successful actions and errors.
